The Half Moon Dragon Boat Festival brings the community together for a day to watch and cheer on the dragon boat teams as they race each other on Half Moon Lake. It’s an exciting day filled with fun, camaraderie, teamwork and community health while raising support for cancer-related services. Hospice activities also are a part of the event.
Mayo Clinic Health System, in partnership with Hope In The Valley, a nonprofit organization supporting local cancer services, presents the 2018 Half Moon Dragon Boat Festival! The Festival will benefit cancer-related services and charities in the region, including the Albert J. and Judith A. Dunlap Cancer Center at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.
Dragon boat racing has its roots in ancient China and is a fast-growing water sport. Each long, sleek boat is propelled by a crew of 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steersperson. Teams will race head to head along a 250-meter course on Half Moon Lake in Carson Park. Just as teamwork is important in dragon boat racing, a team is critical for providing cancer treatment and care. The Half Moon Dragon Boat Festival celebrates the bravery of our patients, the support of their loved ones and the dedication of the team.
Corporate and community teams are invited to participate in the festival.
